As an all-inclusive grooming salon, we’re committed to using only the highest quality grooming products, never cutting corners with cheap or harsh brands. Our goal is simple: to have every dog leave looking great, feeling even better, and excited to come back!

A Balanced, Low-Stress Approach to Grooming

While we are not a one-on-one salon, The Modern Canine is committed to a calm, low-volume environment. Our groomers typically work with no more than two dogs at a time, and most appointments are completed within 1 to 3 hours, depending on the services provided. By avoiding mass drop-offs, we’re able to maintain a clean, peaceful setting.

Safety First

At The Modern Canine, we are not a crate-free salon — and for good reason. Crates are used anytime a dog is not actively being groomed to ensure a safe and controlled environment for every pet in our care. This precaution helps prevent accidents involving sharp tools and accounts for the fact that not all dogs are social or dog-friendly. We treat crates as a calm, secure space for your dog to relax while they wait. Your pet’s safety, comfort, and well-being are always our top priorities.

Nail Filing: $10 (helps smooth nails after clipping)

Paw Balm Massage: $6 (soothes, conditions, and relieves dry & cracked paws, while protecting them from the elements)

Teeth Brushing: $10 (brushing teeth with pet-safe enzymatic toothpaste; helps reduce plaque, tartar & bad breath when done consistently)

Enzymatic Bath: $20

Deshedding and/or matting fees will automatically be applied to the appointment total, as needed. Pricing varies based on size of dog and amount of work involved. We will not leave matting or compacted undercoat in dogs.

Are vaccinations required for dog grooming?

Yes, proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination is required for all dogs being groomed at The Modern Canine. For puppies under 6 months old we do waive the rabies vaccine requirement.

How often should my dog be groomed?

Most dogs benefit from grooming every 4–8 weeks, depending on breed, coat type, and lifestyle.

Long-haired and curly-coated dogs often require more frequent grooming. We recommend a 4-6 week grooming schedule for long and curly haired breeds.

Do you groom all dog breeds and sizes?

Yes, we groom dogs of all breeds, sizes, and coat types—from small puppies to large breeds!

Do I need an appointment for dog grooming?

Yes, we are a by-appointment only grooming salon. Appointments can be made through our online booking portal or by calling us at: (908)-308-2006.

How long does it take to groom my dog?

Most appointments are completed within 1 to 3 hours. The time taken will depend on the condition and length of your pooch’s hair, their behavior for grooming, as well as how busy the day is. We will contact you 20 minutes prior to the end of the grooming to advise what time you should pick up your pooch.

How often does my dog need a nail trim and do I need an appointment?

Your pups nails should be trimmed monthly. While we do not offer walk-in services, please give us a call and we can usually get you in within 24 hours for a nail trim!

What is your cancellation policy?

Time has been specifically reserved for your dog's appointment. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment you must call at least 48 hours prior to your appointment time. Providing less than 48 hours' notice will require you to pay a cancellation fee

What are your business hours?

We are open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Our most up to date hours can always be found on our Google page.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards and cash. We do not accept checks. If you wish to tip your groomer you can tip via cash or Venmo. We do not accept tips on cards.

PLEASE NOTE:

It is up to the discretion of our groomers if we are unable to provide services due to aggression/behavior, age, medical conditions and other safety reasons.
Proof of rabies is required for all services for any dogs 6 months of age and older.
All new clients of The Modern Canine are required to read and sign our New Client Agreement and Cancellation Policy, which are sent after creating a profile.
We require 48 hours notice for all cancellations/rescheduling. No-showing to an appointment will result in the client paying 100% of their appointment total, per pet.
Clients who are 15+ minutes late to their appointment risk losing their appointment and paying the cancellation fee.
The Modern Canine does not provide daycare or boarding services. All clients receive a call/text 30 minutes prior to their dog's grooming completion. Dogs must be picked up within 30 minutes of notice to avoid a $20 per hour kenneling fee per pet.
